When CMS enacted an enrollment moratorium on home health providers on May 13, it transformed CommonSpirit Health at Home's largely de novo-driven growth strategy, according to Home Health Care News.

Trisha Crissman, CommonSpirit Health at Home's president and CEO, said the company has pivoted to three strategic moves anchored in existing markets: geographic expansion and market share aligned with CommonSpirit Health's coverage and hospital partners, moving access to care upstream through specialty clinics and primary care providers, and value-based care success across eight clinically integrated networks.

The company is also deploying AI and digital capabilities as a cross-cutting enabler to enhance clinician engagement, expand clinical capacity, and optimize patient navigation. Its de novo expansion is paused, not abandoned: Crissman said CommonSpirit expects to add about 23 locations through fiscal year 2032 in key markets once CMS lifts the freeze.

Home Health Care News reported that the overarching goal is unchanged, with Crissman noting the budgets have been set and the company must be agile about how it achieves them. She said that because a 60-day notice window passed without an extension announcement, she is optimistic the moratorium is being lifted.

CommonSpirit Health at Home, headquartered in Loveland, Ohio, is the home-based care arm of Catholic healthcare system CommonSpirit, serving more than 16,000 patients across 15 states in home health, hospice, palliative care, and home infusion, with 15 joint ventures with regional hospital systems.
